BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Southend-on-Sea, celebrated the Hindu New Year on Sunday 2 November 2008, where over 550 devotees and visitors joined the celebrations.
The central attraction on the day was the grand Annakut where 151 sumptuous dishes of snacks, sweets, curries, pickles, salads, fruit drinks and various other items were assembled to create a colourful display of exotic vegetarian food prepared by the devotees both young and old.
A small exhibition was also set up which highlighted the organisation’s community activities, offering an educational and enlightening experience. Snacks were provided to all guests and visitors throughout the day and dinner was served to all who were present at the last arti of 7.00pm.
Lady Mayoress Gwendoline Horrigan was also present with her husband along with local councillors Derek Jarvis (Culture & Diversity) and Jonathan Garston (Economic & Environmental Scrutiny). |
