Guests and visitors flocked to BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir, Preston, to celebrate Diwali and the Hindu New Year on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 October 2008. A grand fireworks display illuminated the skies to mark the festival of Diwali on Tuesday evening,
Over 500 visitors from Preston and its surrounding areas joined together on Wednesday to celebrate the start of the Hindu New Year where they enjoyed the darshan of the magnificent Annakut consisting of over 350 items.
A special assembly was held in the evening which incorporated a short presentation about the New Mandir Project. Several distinguished guests and community leaders were also present, including The Lord Mayor & Mayoress of Preston and Councillor for Preston City Kevin Ellard. Mr Yasin Jordan of Lancashire Constabulary commented that the new mandir represented a “new hope for the community”. |
