hours of discovery and peace at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir –
a masterpiece of exotic design and workmanship that rises above
London's skyline. Replete with luminescent white pinnacles and
glittering marble pillars, the mandir continues to attract over
half a million visitors annually.
Using
5,000 tonnes of Italian Carrara marble and the finest Bulgarian
limestone, it was hand-carved into 26,300 pieces by 1,526 skilled
craftsmen. Ancient Indian art and traditions have been encompassed
in this house of worship that has won accolades the world over.
Deities and motifs spring from the walls, ceilings and windows,
representing the sacred faith and beliefs of a people that date
back over 8,500 years.
