| The Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) is a socio-spiritual organisation with its roots in the Vedas. As a part of Hinduism, the Sanstha believes that spiritual and social activities go hand in hand. This site is a veritable goldmine of information on BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London, with details of its history, creation, activities, festivals and inspirer. This breathtaking stone and marble Mandir – built through a labour of love and sacrifice – has become the icon of Hindu culture in the western hemisphere. It is a renowned holy place of prayer and peace. Its inspirer, His Divine Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha and the fifth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, is recognised, not only as a prominent spiritual Hindu leader, but also as a ‘masterbuilder’ for inspiring the creation of this Mandir, the largest Hindu temple outside India (Guinness World Records, 2000). This site presents details for those wishing to visit the Mandir, providing glimpses of the exhibition and the magnificent pillarless Haveli as well as a brief history of the first traditional Hindu school in Europe. Information is also provided about the various activities that take place in the Mandir, such as the annual Annakut festival. BAPS is also well known for the cultural monuments of Swaminarayan Akshardham (New Delhi, India) and Akshardham (Gandhinagar, India). With more than 640 mandirs and 9,090 centres in 45 countries, the organisation is flourishing under the dynamic leadership of its spiritual head, Pramukh Swami Maharaj. |
